Covid Vaccination Update January 2021

Portland Practice and Hatherley Surgery have started to roll out the Covid vaccinations from a Central Cheltenham site. We are doing this in partnership with other local practices and other local agencies many of whom have volunteered to help.

Initially, as per national guidance, we invited the over 80 years. During the early part of 2021 we will be inviting younger and younger age groups. This process will continue for several months until all patients over 50 years or those deemed to be at risk have been offered vaccination. For more guidance please see national websites.

Patients will need two appointments, but please be aware that the vaccination program is a huge national undertaking and there may be delays. Please also be aware that as a GP practice we are governed by Government guidelines and we are not in the position to alter your place in vaccination lists. Please be patient and wait to be contacted.

As there will be up to 2000 people a week wanting to contact our telephone booking line it is very important that we try and steer you towards other ways of booking appointments.

It would be very helpful therefore if you could make plans in advance whilst awaiting your letter.

  • Please make sure that you have an email address that you, a relative or a friend can access. This will ensure that when you get a vaccination invitation you will be able to confirm via the email booking system that will be set up for this purpose. We will however follow up any patients we have not heard from, although this will delay your vaccination.
  • Please consider making travel plans, you will need to be able to travel safely to a Central Cheltenham location (confirmation of site will be with your letter). There will be a carpark nearby. But please consider using public transport.
  • It is very important that the clinic runs smoothly so please ensure all questions are answered before you attend hopefully by reading the information in your appointment letter and the leaflet sent with it.
  • We will be contacting vulnerable people or their relatives, and also patients who are housebound to ensure there are alternative ways for them to be vaccinated. Details will be on the invite letter.

Please do not phone the practice regarding Covid Vaccination. If you have any questions that need answering then in the first instance please visit the Coronavirus Vaccination page on the NHS website.

Alternatively please ask your question using our online Ask the Reception a Question form.
